New Pattern Release: the Sobi Belt!
This one is reversible, and made from a divine silk brocade with silk satin ties. I only test with the best!
When Sue from Fadanista.com and I were making the Sumekko Dress, Sue made an obi belt to go with one of her makes, and the testers loved the combination - so I made a pattern for everyone!
This pattern is a combination of Sue's original design, and one of my own that featured some appliqué. Given that Sue and I work so well together, it seemed fitting that this new pattern was a combination of both of us. How perfect is it with the Sumekko dress?! But it would look amazing over a shirt, worn with pants... you name it! And because you can make it reversible, it is even more versatile.
It is a really fast make too, Suzy from Sewing_in_Spain made her tester one in just 40 minutes! She used a crepe and a spotted lining - doesn't it look fabulous?
The belt can be reversible, and like all my patterns, I hope it can be hacked and personalised. Here is a sample made for the video tutorial you can watch. I appliquéd a piece of lace I had in my stash using machine embroidery, so the stitching would show on the reverse side.
I used a linen/cotton blend for the obi, with sand-washed silk for the ties. In the video, I show you how to make ties, but you can also use ribbon.
For a bit of fun, Sue and I did some twinning: we each made a dress out of a wonderful lurex that I have in my stash (80m... yes, 80m... plenty to share!) and we both made the Sobi Belt out of the silk brocade. It is such fun to do, because we have such different figures, and yet, both the Sumekko and the Sobi suit both of us. I hope you have fun making your own Sobi Belt - and don't forget to share on social media so I can see your makes! #sobibelt @patternunion
